It is such a great feeling to move into a brand new home you have built yourself. I have been lucky enough to do this twice in my life already. Many times however, life circumstances change and you may find yourself in a renting position either because you are not sure how long you are going to be living in a given area, or because your credit is bad due to circumstances beyond your control. If you find yourself renting a home or buying an older home you will need to be aware that there can be water damage that you may not find until after you have already moved into your home. It pays then to know the ways you can know if your home has water damage or not.

Many times if you will take enough time to look around the home, you will be able to see for yourself that there has been water damage. Look up at the ceiling especially if the home has a basement and you can see discolorations that are tell tail signs there has been water damage in this home at some point. Also look down at the baseboards and if you see any kind of black mold growing you can rest assured there is probably water damage happening in the home currently. You do not want to move into a home that has water damage that has not been controlled because it can cause you and your family a lot of health problems, especially if anyone in your home suffers from asthma. It may be that there was once water damage in the home you are thinking about renting or buying but you can see it has been taken care of with some sort of product such as Kills. If this is the case you may still want to consider why the water damage happened in the first place and if it has the potential to happen again.

Either the seller of the home or the person you are planning to rent from should fix water damage in a home. They need to be made aware of the issue before you move it so you will not risk being stuck with dealing with the water damage problem yourself. It is a lot of work to fix a problem such as this and it can cost you money you will not want to spend on such a problem. If you see any signs that I have mentioned above that lead you to believe their has been or still is water damage going on in a home, it is best to steer clear of this home and look elsewhere.
